    CAFÉ MANAGER

    Reporting to the Toronto Regional Manager, the Café Manager will be responsible for taking the lead role in all aspects of day-to-day café operations, managing employee performance, and ensuring unparalleled customer service. The Café Manager must effectively oversee all activities relating to café operations with the goal of increasing café profitability, engaging and motivating staff to perform optimally, and boosting Balzac’s brand reputation through increased customer loyalty.

    Your Commitment to Us:

    The Credentials:

    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related position required, with at least 2 of those years spent in a Supervisory or superior position.
    • Barista and customer service experience
    • University degree or college diploma (Business, Hospitality, Food Service) preferred.
    • Event management and/or bartending experience preferred. (Powerhouse and Vaughn locations only)
    • Smart Serve Certificate preferred. (Powerhouse and Vaughn locations only)

    The Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:

    • Financial aptitude – ability to analyze financial data and reports to make both proactive and effective business decisions.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
    • Ability to lead, work and motivate in a team environment.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to strategically problem-solve and make appropriate business decisions confidently.
    • Ability to build and maintain effective work relationships that help to grow Balzac’s brand and reputation.
    • Willingness to assume other duties and responsibilities.

    About the Job:

    Oversee all Café Operations

    • Assign responsibilities and duties to employees to maximize operational effectiveness.
    • Effectively prepare work schedules that are appropriate for business volumes. 
    • Coordinate with vendors and order supplies as needed. Maintain inventory controls.
    • Monitor and manage the financial performance of the café.
    • Support café staff and communicate clearly to ensure effective store operations.

    Manage Performance

    • Interview, hire, train and guide new employees in delivering excellent customer service and performing optimally.
    • Monitor and manage employee performance by regularly conducting performance reviews, providing feedback, and administering progressive discipline when necessary.   
    • Mentor employees and effectively lead by example to build trust, promote employee engagement and increase retention.

    Ensure Unparalleled Customer Service

    • Listen to valuable feedback from customers and make appropriate changes and business decisions to meet customer needs.
    • Advise employees on the best ways to resolve issues with customers and deliver excellent customer service.
    • Address all customer concerns and/or complaints in an appropriate manner to ensure the safety, respect and dignity of all parties involved.

    Working Schedule:

    • Full-time, day shifts, Monday-Friday
    • Occasional evening and weekend work based on business demand

    Balzac’s Coffee Roasters was founded in 1996 and now features fourteen Café locations plus a thriving and growing wholesale division. At the heart of our operation is our packaging and production team who are responsible for ensuring all our cafes and wholesale customers receive their orders fresh and on time. It is a highly physical, fast-paced job - from packing small online orders, to loading, wrapping and shipping multiple skids of coffee to our wholesale partners.     About the Job:

    • Fill coffee orders and pack coffee to prepare for shipping.
    • Assist in receiving and stocking inventory; manual transfer of green coffee bags and other warehoused items.
    • Mix various blends and maintain accuracy in mixing logs and coffee identification processes.
    • Ensure the cleanliness and preventative maintenance of warehouse equipment.
    • Maintain organized, labelled, clean, and well-maintained work areas.
    • Assist Delivery Drivers with loading and unloading the delivery vehicles and accompanying Delivery Drivers as a delivery assistant when required.

    Working Schedule:

    • Full-time, day shifts, Monday-Friday
    • Occasional evening and weekend work based on business demand
