Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller will play a key part in the development and advancement of the finance function at Balzac’s. The Controller will direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems and work closely with the Senior Leadership Team. Leading with integrity and reliability and having the ability to manage self and others with urgency, practicality and accountability will be essential for this role. As a team-player, you roll up your sleeves to ensure the job gets done. This is a full-time position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage the month-end close process and related accounting staff.
• Own the preparation, analysis and presentation of Monthly Financial Reports providing detailed insights into the root cause of variances to budget/forecasts.
• Make recommendations and identify emerging trends that enable the company to make informed decisions that drive balanced, profitable growth.
• Lead the annual year-end review process with external auditors.
• Prepare compliance support and filing with various regulatory agencies.
• Perform cash projections to effectively manage cash balances and maximize the return on any excess.
• Supervise general ledger, journal entries, sales tax, month-end reconciliations, accruals, A/R, A/P, etc.
• Develop, improve, and issue monthly financial records for top management.
•  Analyze financial data and create financial models for decision support.
• Manage commercial banking relationships to facilitate an appropriate credit resource.
• Responsible for ad-hoc analysis and information requests from members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
• Assist the Director of Finance in the preparation of the annual operating plan (AOP), latest estimates (LE) and strategic forecasts.
• Supervise the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulations. 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in Finance, Accounting or Business
• Qualified accountant with CPA designation or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of related accounting experience, management experience preferred.
• Strong technical accountings skills and understanding of ASPE required.
• Advanced Excel skills (Pivots, Lookups, Index Match, etc.)
• Working knowledge of NetSuite (or comparable database product) is desirable.
• Working knowledge of PowerBI (or comparable BI product) is desirable.
